According to psychology, the methods of historical literature analysis, questionnaire and personality assessment were used to study the personality of fathers, which is a special group of people. This study explored and compared the personality structure between traditional fathers and modern fathers, based on this, the study explored the modern transformation and values of traditional fathers'personality.On the study of traditional fathers'personality structure, three representatives of traditional fathers were selected. Based on the biography of the three fathers and a scale which contains 150 personality adjectives, factor analysis showed that traditional fathers'personality structure was composed of"Charity and integrity","Industrious and duty","Sturdily and open-minded","Eridition and wisdom".A scale of 124 personality adjectives on modern fathers was formed based on personality adjective scale compiled by Wang dengfeng and open-ended survey, students were asked to fill the scale according to their comprehension to their fathers. Factor analysis showed that modern fathers'personality structure was composed of four dimensions which were parts of Chinese"Big Seven"personality structure, such as"Sturdily and responsible","Integrity and kind","Optimistic and community","Cordial and easygoing"and"Honest and duty".Comparing differences between traditional and modern fathers'personality, this study explored the modern transformation and values of traditional fathers'personality structure. On the background of traditional Chinese culture, some good personality traits need to be promoted, such as"Charity and integrity","Sturdily and open-minded"and"Industrious and duty". In addition, some new content of modern fathers'personality, such as"Optimistic and community"and"Cordial and easygoing", were stressed according to the needs of modernization.
