There are more than forty full translations of the Analects published and morethan one thousand articles about it and its translations can be searched on theelectronic data base.The translations of the Analects can be divided into two ways: by the time thetranslation was published and by the cultural background of its translations. Thesetwo diversities again give birth to the different translator's horizons, translating targets,prejudice and fore-understanding of the Analects. Besides this, the translator's lifeand world view, academic attitudes, writing style, educational background andliterature accomplishments will also influence the translating style on certain extent.In this thesis, three versions of the Analects will be compared on the view ofhermeneutics and translator's subjectivity: Legge's version; Gu Hongming's version;Lai Bo & Xia Yuhe's version (hereinafter referred to as Lai & Xia's version).This thesis studies on the difference of these three versions and possible reasonsfor the differences on the aspects of hermeneutics. In the meantime, studies theinfluence of subjectivity of the translators on the style of the translations.In this thesis, the writer tries to redefine translation and elaborate its wholeprocess with basic ideas of philosophical hermeneutics.
