Study On Urban Culture Of Modern Liling

Liling County locates in eastern Hunan province. Residing on the riverside of the Lvshui branch of Xiangjiang River at the west hillside of north arm of Luoxiaoshan Mountain, it lies to the east of Pingxiang County of Jiangxi Province, neighboring You County ,Zhuzhou city and Liuyang County respectively in the south,west and north. In ancient times it was the juncture between Wu Country and Yue Country. It lies in the entrance of Wu and the exit of Yue, sided by Eastern Hunan and Southern Guangdong Province. It enjoys an important geographical location.This thesis is comprised by two parts. The first part makes a summary of the city development in ancient times with its focus on recent changes. The establishment of Liling County has a history of almost two thousand years. Its slow development in ancient times gained speed by the reign of Kangxi and Qianlong in Qing. It reaches to its peak during the end of Qing and the beginning of KuoMingTang ruling, and latter gradually transit into a modern city. Its development was blocked since the break of the anti-Japanese war till the foundation of the new republic.The second part centers on the narration of its city cultural connotation and character. I explore the development of the factors in the system of modern Liling city. The geological and ecological culture, well-developed industrial and business culture, unique construction and planning culture, all contribute to my conclusion: the modern Lingli is a city of long history and cultural heritage.The views illustrated in this thesis are based on rich historic data and on-site inspection. The pictures used in it make the paper more direct and expressive.
