Case Study On Form Of Settlements In Northeastern Hubei On The Passageway Of Emigration From Jiangxi To Hubei During Ming And Qing Dynasty

The passageway of emigration is a pass way of carrying forward and forging ahead the technique tradition and the spirit tradition. Hubei province always locates in the passageway of emigrants from Jiangxi to Hu-Guang and emigrants from Hu-Guang to Sichuan. It is the northeastern Huibei that accepted the largest number of immigrants from Jiangxi. This area is influenced deeply by the emigration movement and lots of immigrant settlements assembled in this area, especially Xiaogan county in Macheng city is one of the eight greatest emigrant distributing centers in ancient China. This paper focuses on the immigrant settlements'form and divided into two parts, one is the blood-settlement; the other is the geo-settlement.In the first part, Shitouban village in Macheng city is chosen to be the study case of the blood-settlement in northeast Hubei. The study includes the exsisting form of immigrant settlements, comparason with peripheral settlement form (Banducheng village), comparason with settlement form in original land (Qingyuan village) and comparason with immigrant settlement form in southeast Hubei (Jiangyuan village, Yuwan village and Shuinan village). This research consentrates on the emigrant settlements'form and space structure, including three levels: settlement, vernacular architecture and feature elements, from macro point of view to micro point of view, to analyze the emigrant settlements'structure and form as well as the reconstruction of the physical environment and the social system. The cognition map and space syntax are the main study methods of this part.The second part takes the Qiting town in Macheng city as the study case of geo-settlement in northeast Hubei, and takes the Waxieba in Jiangxi as comparison, which is also one of the eight greatest emigrant distributing centers. The study starts with the existing space form and the historic trace, classifying and confirming the historic records based on the research achievements of human science. This part makes effort to speculate and to recover the original picture of the emigrant distributing center in the emigration period, in order to generalize the characteristic of emigrant distributing center by the natural geographical conditions, the social environment and the historic change and other aspects.
