| "Errant Knight"has different parts of speech and related meanings in ancient Chinese. As a noun, it refers to a special social group and its cultural spirit; as an adjective, it is a precise summary of its special spiritual form and behavioral paradigm. The errant knight culture, as an important part of traditional culture, has influenced the spiritual world of ancient poets deeply and intensely, which was reflected in their poetry. Thus, the research on the errant knight poetry makes it possible that we get a clearer and closer understanding of ancient poets'spiritual world.For long, we failed to keep a balance between the research of errant knight poetry and its culture. Especially the errant knight poetry during the southern and northern dynasties should have been paid more attention. In fact, it is a significant stage in the history of its progress which was begun by Cao Zhi. Without their creative job, the errant knight poetry we read today may be completely different.The thesis focuses on how the poets dealt with the errant knight subject, choosing the thematic and imagery analysis. On a close and overall reading, we find that on the one hand, the poetry theme has changed into a story of going to the frontier fotress as a soldier in order to thank some great people who is often the emperor; On the other hand, the imagery of the errant knight man has been more vivid both inside and outside, which reflects the aesthetic taste of the poets at that time.At the same time, the thesis holds that all the changes in theme and imagery reflects the strong desire to the errant knight man's original and ferocious spiritual world, and also the cleanse of its barbarism. Based on this, we can get a clearer understanding of how it inherited the period of the Wei and Jin dynasties, and opened a generation of the prosperity of errant knight poetry in Tang dynasty. Through all these poetry, the genes of the errant knight poem had finally been passed on.
