The study of translation in children's literature remains relatively unexplored both home and abroad. The author of this paper has made a survey according to the journal Chinese Translator. The result shows that among more than a thousand papers on translation and three hundred or so on literature translation, there only have been two on children's literature translation. Most current researches in related fields in China focus only on practical problems such as specific techniques applied in translation rather than systematic theory or criticism research. Even in the west, only a few scholars have committed themselves in children's literature studies, and they mainly concentrate on the influence of children's literature on the education of young readers.Children's literature possesses many distinctive features which tend to have a huge impact on the cultivation of linguistic competence, aesthetics, and imaginations of a child. To introduce great western children's literature to open Chinese children's mind is of growing urgency nowadays. Therefore, deeper, wider and more systematic researches on the translation of children's literature seem more important than ever. This paper tries to analyze the poetic features of rhyme and rhythm in some of children's literary works, focusing on decoding the difficulty and essence of translating children's literature: reconstructing poetic sounds and its influence upon the education of young minds. The author tries to decipher the necessity and translating techniques of reconstructing poetic sounds through a case study into Zhao Yuanren's version of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Also, the paper endeavors to combine researches in related fields like literature and psychology of children to elaborate on some points in children's education and to promote a relatively systematic study the reconstructing of poetic sounds in translation of children's literature.
