Philanthropy in China has a long history. When we look at ancient historical social relief, the official relief has been in the main status. Until the late Qing Dynasty, because of the increasing corruption of bureaucracy, plus the foreign invasions since the late Qing Dynasty, the official relief work has been gradually declined.
