Modern pottery art has been developed for more than 100 years in the Western world, while genuine Chinese pottery art is originated from 1980's , which cames into being with China's process of reform and opening-up. Since the"eight-five"movement,Chinese modern pottery art has its unique background with the acceleration of Western modern art's spreading. Chinese modern pottery creation, who has greatly influenced by western post-modern art thought, tends to be affected easily by it and attracted by its appearance.This paper aims at discussing how we should treat modern western art and seeking the influence ,strenth of our traditional culure.Morover, this paper intends to analyse the pefect integration of modern pottery spirit and traditional culture, the re-creation of traditional culture and the trend of the integration. The modernening of Chinese pottery is a process which not only explores the modern value according with present people in the new historical background, discards the dross and selects the essence of the modern western art but also deals the relationship between traditional pottery and modern pottery.This paper is divided into six chapters. The first chapter being introduction, introduces why the writer writes the paper, how the writer writes the paper, then it has a brief introduction of the present situation of modern pottery at home and abroad. Last, it emphasizes some problems about the pottery art in the present atmosphere.The second chapter analyses the beginning ,development and schools of western modern pottery art and emphasizes the styles of modern pottery art in America, Japan and some other European countries.The third chapter analyses in details the background of Chinese modern pottery art, how its multi-style reformed under the influence of western modern pottery art. Then it introduces some representative schools.The fourth chapter elaborates the present situation of female modern pottery art and analyses some Chinese modern pottery ceators and their works, discusses the characters of female pottery creators, the reason of they coming into being, describes their feelings and experiences about females. Lastly, it discusses the relationship between female pottery works and female art.The fifth chapter emphasizes the awkward current situation. These factors such as vague identification, the invasion of western culture, the restriction of system, being badly treated by public and art critics are all disadvatages for pottery art development. The writer intends to analyse the problems of modern pottery art's development after understanding its history so that a series of ways can be found to improve our pottery art.The sixth chapter intends to conclude the whole paper, hoping to seek some theoretical background for our modern pottery art development, to open a new road to the future pottery art development so that Chinese pottery art can reachieve its international significance.
