Self-supporting personality is an important component in the complicated system of personality,it is the process that individuals get rid of the things previously relied on,to act, decide, judge independently and take responsibility for their commitments and activities.Despite its important implications for people's social activities, the only focus of systematic researches is its innate structure in the last few years. No empirical studies on its social adaptive functions have been reported up to now.The aim of the current thesis is to explore the relationship between self-supporting personality and mental-physical symptoms.Using the College students questionnaire of Self-Supporting Personality Scale (SSPS-AS) and the Self-report Symptom Inventory,Symptom Check List 90(abbrev. SCL-90),we investigated 908 college students in Sichuan,Guangxi,Xinjiang, Chongqing,to explore the characteristics of college students' self-supporting personality and its relationship between their mental-physical status through descriptive statistics, correlation and regression analysis. The results showed that college students' self-supporting personality,1) varied significantly across genders, majors and species.2) correlated significantly with their scores in SCL-90.Regression analysis revealed that most factors of the SSPS-AS were significant predictors for factors of SCL-90.In sum,self-supporting personality had close relationship with individual's mental-physical status. And our results suggested its significant social adaptive functions.
