As one origin of Chinese civilization and the capital city of Jin, Yuan,Ming and Qing federal dynasties, Beijing is located in Yan-Zhao district and has a long history with more than 3,000 years since founded. Moreover, it has a large population and multiple races and especially is well-known for its centuries-old, open and compatible culture. The typical folk music in this city is a good example.Folk songs of the Han nationality spreading in Beijing actively absorb the exotic music elements and simultaneously remain its own characteristics during the development of this type of local music. In fact, the Beijing tone pervades various types of folk songs. Some combined with dialect pronunciation close make these songs more Beijing-featured, for example, hawking songs; another ones' features on the Beijing tone become comparatively more nonfigurative after some artistic embellishments, for example, ditty. Using ethnomusicology, musical morphologic, comparative musicology and study methods of statistics for reference, this article tries to summarize and analyze the artistic characteristics of Beijing folk songs in details considering the developmental history and the humanism background of this ancient city. Through it, the author expects to discuss the artistic characteristics of Beijing folk songs with others and offer valuable reference to create new works.
