In this thesis,I make a case study about the mural from the Main Hall of Fahai Temple in Shijingshan District of the west of Beijing. The thesis consists of three parts. The preface includes the history summary and the Main hall's configuration of Fahai Temple, and the literature reviews on the mural of the Main Hall,at the same time outlines the aims of this thesis in the context of previous researches on the mural of the Main Hall.In the first part,I analyze the stylistic origins of the existing mural of the Main Hall in Fahai Temple. In the second part,I discuss the relationship between the existing mural of the Main Hall of Fahai Temple and the early Ming court painting. In the three part,I mainly introduce the builder Li Tong of Fahai Temple and lots of eunuchs and Tibetan monks who donate to accomplish the construction of this temple according to the inscription carved on the tablets of this temple.Meanwhile I also analyze the role they played between the exchange of Chinese and Tibetan art in the Ming Dynasty.Through various analyses,I believe that:differing from most researchers in the past who thought that the stylistic origins of the existing mural in the Main Hall of Fahai Temple were mainly related with the artistic tradition of the religious paintings of the southward in Ming dynasty,of which were connected to the style of the Nan Song court painting and Ming court painting,I think that the mural' artistic style of the Main Hall origins from the artistic tradition of the mural' style of the Liao and Jin Temples of the northern part in Shanxi Province, furthermore it also has certain relationship in artistic heritage between the temples at the same time and later Ming dynasty in this region, and it also relates with the artistic style of one or two temples of central and western part in Hebei province and Northwestward in China. At the same time, the makers of all the mural in the Main Hall also assimilated and absorbed the drawing methods and the skills of the shaping figure and accessories in Tibetan Buddhist art.
