This paper aims to discuss the history and characteristics of Zhejiang lacquer's production and consumption since the Hemudu Culture for 7000 years,based on the local archaeological finds in recent 100 years.The development of Zhejiang lacquer art can be classified into six characteristic phases:1.Prehistorically Cultural Period:Zhejiang lacquer art.buds with first attempts;2.Xia Dynasty to Shang Dynasty and Zhou Dynasty:Zhejiang lacquer art comes into being;3.Qin to Southern and Northern Dynasties:Zhejiang lacquer art of getting established;4.Sui,Tang and Wudai Dynasty:Zhejiang lacquer art in the opportunity period;5.Song and Yuan Dynasty:the prosperous period of Zhejiang lacquer art;6.Ming and Qing Dynasty:the mature period of Zhejiang lacquer art.In this period the artisans cooperate with the prosperous lacquer industry and significant progress is made in the lacquer art technology as well as in its theory.The development of Zhejiang lacquer art shows the Chinese lacquer art progress in another angle.The research of Zhejiang lacquer art provided the more general basic data.It have special references to the sociality and artistry of the Chinese lacquer art including its production, innovation and consumption,and so on.
