Researches on leadership prototype began in the 1970s.It is a unique perspective to make people rethinking on leadership.From its inception,leadership prototype has become more and more valued by scholars.At present,researches of leadership prototype in western countries focus on its formation,structure,measurement and applications. In the context of Chinese culture,this study first tests the absolute difference scores that represent the matching between prototype actual leaders.Secondly,we compare the effects of leadership prototypes,actual leaders and the matching of leadership prototype on Leader - Member Exchange(LMX) and work attitudes.Thirdly,this study attempts to study the effect of matching between leadership prototype and actual leaders on LMX and work attitudes.In addition,hierarchical regression is used to test whether the achievement motive and the duration of LMX moderate the effect of matching on LMX. Besides,this study investigates the differences of matching on demographic variables.The main conclusions of this study are as follows:First,compared to leadership prototype and actual leaders,the matching of leadership prototype impacts more significantly LMX and work attitudes;Second,the matching of leadership prototype and LMX are significantly negatively correlated;Third,the matching of leadership prototype and work attitudes are significantly negatively correlated;Fourth,LMX and work attitudes show a positive correlation;Fifth,through LMX the matching of leadership prototype indirectly impacts work attitudes;Sixth,achievement motive and the duration of LMX do not moderate the effect of the matching of leadership prototype on LMX but achievement motive impacts LMX through the matching of leadership prototype;Seventh,the matching of diversity of capabilities is significant distinguished from male to female;Eighth,the matching of goals of effectiveness,the matching of personal qualities and the matching of interpersonal skills are significant different among types of enterprises.
