Urban Music Time

This thesis is a research on the music salon in Dongting Avenue of Hankou district in the context of leisure culture,urban culture and urban ethnomusicology.The author obtains a comprehensive knowledge on the present condition of the salon,the status of participants and their music lives through an investigation of thirteen months.The author investigates music activities of Dongting music salon on the basis of three elements of musical analysis proposed by American ethnomusicologist Merriam:sound,concept and behavior.The author understands culture significances of Dongting music Salon from individual's soul freedom,social harmony and other aspects.The author believes that urbanites can enjoy freedom and liberation of human nature from the leisure of the salon, meanwhile,these participants build the harmonious urban culture of urbanites relying on the musical leisure.This research can provide reference and self-reflection example for the busy and impulsive life style and spirit world of urbanites.The structure of the thesis is as follow:the first part is an introduction,it introduces the reasons of the subject selection,a overview of related document and the research methods.Following is the text body composed by five chapters:the first chapter,the theory background of the research of Dongting music salon;the second chapter,the social culture background of the research of Dongting music salon;the third chapter,the environment and status of Dongting music salon;the fourth chapter,Dongting music salon:music dominating life style;the fifth chapter,understand of Dongting music salon: music time in city.The last is the summary of all chapters as well as the whole thesis.
