People’s spare time is getting more and more because of society developapace, and people start to focus on leisure activity and seek for it as possible. Withincreasing of leisure activity, and leisure culture is becoming colorful. The era of leisureof the whole people is coming. The urban leisure culture is significant aspects ofChinese socialist cultural construction. Therefore, the theory of Marxism, which is thejust guiding ideology of the socialist cause in our country, will guide the development ofour urban leisure culture.Although the word “leisure” never appeared in Marx’s works, his concepts of “freetime”,“comprehensive and free development of individuals” contain the thoughts ofleisure. Based on the original works the article will, in the first place, expound Marx’ssource of his thoughts theoretically and practically. It also reveals the main content ofMarx’s leisure thoughts from three perspectives: basis and performance of leisure, therelationship between labor and leisure, individuals’ comprehensive development andleisure. Through the research to find the theoretical evidences of Marx’s leisurethoughts, and the ultimate result of the development of leisure thoughts is to achieve acomprehensive and free development of individuals.Urban leisure culture has an important part of human leisure cultures overall andalso a crucial issue of the research of cities’ development. In combination of Marx’sleisure thoughts, the article uncovers Chinese urban leisure cultures’ issues:“vulgarization”,“westernization”,“occurrence of spiritual emptiness”, and“convergence”. These social phenomenon have become a central problem constrainingthe full development of urban leisure cultures. For further promotion of urban leisurecultures’ development in China, the article speaks from all perspectives ofpeople–orientated, concept of “free time” and regionalism of urban leisure cultures, andethnicism, to achieve a healthy and consistent development of urban leisure culture.Cities in China have their own regional features, but the issue we are facing is puttingthe features in a good use. Thus we will find our own fitting urban leisure culture basedon specifying of regional features.
