As far as the history of Chinese is concerned,generally scholars deem that they should choose several monographs from different dynastic history for research of the ancient Chinese grammar.And on the basis of those monographs we form dynastic history of grammar,thus, to form detailed and systematic general history of Chinese grammar.Empty words is the important component of Chinese grammar,therefore,research of empty words embodies the research of ancient Chinese grammar.Moreover,one of the empty words is adverb which is complicated,large in quantity,but not being studied adequately.According to the characteristics of adverb itself,it is half empty and half substantival,so it is necessary to study adverb diachronically.The Outspread Laces of the Spring and Autumn Annals is an important work for research of Chinese grammar from Qin to Han and the one from antediluvian Chinese to medieval Chinese.There are many grammatical phenomena worthy of studying.However,academe mainly focuses on the aspects of its thoughts and the approaches of unscrambling it rather than its grammar and word class.Therefore,this thesis uses different approaches which analyzes many monographs to grammatically analyze and depicts the adverbs of this book from a panoramic view.It also exhibits the genres of adverb of this book and generally illustrates the acceptation of adverb,especially polysemous adverb.Meanwhile,this thesis compares the multivocal adverbs from The Outspread Laces of the Spring and Autumn Annals with them from Chinese Dictionary in order to offer some basic material for the grammatical research of Chinese history.And this will not only benefit the understanding of development of ancient Chinese history but also function as a transition for the research of ancient Chinese grammar.
