Tim Burton is a special film director in Hollywood.His works have won variety of awards at international film festivals.During the past 20 years,Tim Burton has produced nearly 20 films,almost all of them was favorably received.The term "Burtonesque" being ascribed to any film maker whose work is dark,edge,quirky.There is a distinct and unique phenomenon in his films:most of his films are genre between animation films and real person films.First as an animation director, he often used the concept of animation to direct film,and his film is full of illusions about the unique effects.Researching his animation films is also very important for understanding his other film.Tim Burton is destined to be an important director beacause of two stop-motion Animation:Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride.This paper is a study of his animation films,his animation films overturn the world of traditional fairy tales, showing the darkness of terror,but did not give us the feeling of terror,This article focus on this issue.The first part,I want to introduce the serious of working environment of Tim Burton and his experience to work for film industry,with purpose of digging out his style and the reason which it shapes.According to the traditional American animation film,the second part is trying to analyze the characteristic of Tim Burdon's animation films.And it's coming from how to chose the theme;how to figure the character;and how to set up the story.The third part analyzes the character of the film language on the audio and visual aspect.The sculpts,music,and color on the films can bring terror and grotesquery feeling to the audience.The fourth part is emphasizes on the inner spirits of his films and reaches the conclusion is that he had immited the factor of carnivalism.
