The horizontal-vertical illusion as a form of the most common misconception, many researchers have explored the issue of its mechanism and influence factors. At present, a large number of studies have shown that the emergence of the horizontal-vertical illusion depends on the stimulation of structural components, the observer's own characteristics and the impact of knowledge and experience. In a word, it is the dual role of subjective and objective results. Cognitive Style is a subjective factor that affects the size of the horizontal-vertical illusion, it is regrettable that no prior research on the relationship between the two comes to a consistent conclusion. At home, impossible figure can not be studied in a large scale, the current prevailing view is that the reason for graphics can not be judged successfully is a result of construction of the minds of the wrong mental model, it failed to integrate the contradictory clues of impossible figure. The perception of the impossible figure is different from horizontal-vertical illusions. It is a top-down process that depends on more subjective factors. For example, knowledge, experience and the individual characteristics are all subjective factors that affect the identification of impossible figure.Eye-movement technology is able to provide mental activity data in real-time processing, based on which, the researchers will analyze human's mental activity in order to explore the psychological mechanism of visual information processing. In this study, the use of eye-movement technology on the way to observe, record and analyze the eye movement characteristics of different subjects who are watching the pictures of horizontal-vertical illusion and the impossible figure. According to these eye movement data, the researcher tries to illustrate the theory of horizontal-vertical illusion and impossible figure. This study falls into four experiments in all. The purpose of Experiment I is to validate the impact of structural factors and strategic factors on the horizontal-vertical illusion. Taking use of eye-movement technology, Experiment II observes the eye-movement indicators of two types of typical horizontal-vertical illusion. In Experiment three, eye-movement indicators provide many clues to analyze the impact of gender and cognitive style variables on horizontal-vertical illusion. The purpose of the fourth experiments is to explore the way how gender and cognitive style variables affect the identification of impossible figure. Through a series of experiments, the following conclusions can be reached:1,The resulting horizontal-vertical illusion dual role is the result of subjective and objective, both by stimulating the structure, while effective feedback can reduce the amount of horizontal-vertical illusion.2,Gender and cognitive style are important factor that influence the indicators of eye movement and the size of horizontal-vertical illusion; Eye movement data of horizontal-vertical illusion can try to predict the volume of horizontal-vertical illusion.3,Gender and cognitive style will influence the performance of the task of impossible figure and the eye-movement indicators. In the task of impossible figure, the shorter the average fixation time may be more effective to monitor the eye movement patterns.
