A Study In Illustrations Of The Clever And Foolish Sutra Based On The Dunhuang Mogao Cave 146

The murals of Clever and Foolish S(?)tra at Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes had appeared in the early caves,such as cave 275,254,257,285 and 296 etc.This situation has continued until the murals of cave 302 in the Late Sui Dynasty,such story murals of Clever and Foolish S(?)tra disappeared in the period from the Early-Tang to Mid-Tang of Tibetan occupation.Yet in the late Tang and Five Dynasties and Song period,the murals were seen in the lower murals of the caves 85,98,108,146and 55,developed painted on Clever and Foolish S(?)tra with the form of folding screen.In this thesis,firstly I have done a detailed focus research of the murals painted on Clever and Foolish S(?)tra in the cave 146,making a comparison with the murals painted on the Caves 85,98,108 and 55,at the centre of cave 146 the period during in Late Tang, Five Dynasties and the Song period,studied and summarized the characteristics of the art evolved on Clever and Foolish S(?)tra,explored the trade-offs,composition and artistic characteristics on the development and change of Clever and Foolish S(?)tra.I have noted the relationship between the Inscription and Transformation texts on Clever and Foolish S(?)tra,done a comparative research on them,and further explored the function of the murals developed painted on Clever and Foolish Sutra,compared with the differences between the developed painted murals and early stories of the murals copied on Clever and Foolish S(?)tra,and studied the absorption and the situation of the developed painted murals on Clever and Foolish S(?)tra to the early stories of the murals in the two periods.
