Among the prosperous Middle Tang poetic circle, Zhangji is absolutely an important poet for he makes great achievement in both"Folk-tang-styled-verse"and"Modern Style Poetry". The Overall style of Zhangji's poetry shows its characteristic of variation, which combines both refinement and smoothness; both sincere gentleness and natural freshness; both usualness and distinctiveness. As Zhangji keeps deeply in touch with those poets of Late Tang, such as Wang Jian, Han Yu, Bai Juyi, Liu Zongyuan, Jia Dao and Yao He, his poetry spreads widely among the Men of Letters. Besides, Zhangji's poetry are read and spread in the public, by the rise and prevalence of the Mass media such activities as Men of Letters singing according to the poetry, Wall Poetry, selecting Poetry in Late Tang period. The variation style of Zhangji's poetry meets the demand of the acceptors with different expectation in Late Tang period. In the creation of"Folk-tang-styled-verse",the style of refinement influences Wang Jian's life attitude and poetic creation. Together with Wang Jian, he changes the flow;In the New"Folk-tang-styled-verse"Movement,Zhangji's refinement and smoothness is accepted and developed by Bai Juyi,which is of great importance to the creation of New"Folk-tang-styled-verse".Meanwhile, the significance extends to Pi Lu's creation of"Folk-tang-styled-verse"in Late Tang period. In the creation of"Modern Style Poetry", Zhangji's poetry is learned and modeled by Yao He, Jia Dao, and Zhu Qingyu in Late Tang period, especially attitude of creation,inner spirits and aesthetic style and feature in his poetry.Apart from an introduction, this dissertation consists of four chapters. The introduction is concerned with Zhangji, the current situation of the research of his poems and the main content of this dissertation.Chapter One is an introduction about the life experience and the poems'characteristic of Zhangji.Chapter Two presents the roots and diversion of Zhangji's poetry as well as its spread situation in Middle and Late Tang Dynasty. Chapter Three makes a survey into the relationship between the acceptance of Zhangji's poetry and the development of Folk-tang-styled-verse in Middle and Late Tang Dynasty.Chapter Four explores the relationship between the acceptance of Zhangji's poetry and the development of"Modern Style Poetry"in Middle and Late Tang Dynasty.
