The Diwan Lu at-it-Tyrk is a classical encyclopedia of Turkish language,history and culture in the eleventh century. It affords some important scientific and rich information for science field especially for Turkish linguistics field. The proverbs in this book have become crucial study object. Great attention was held because they were national cultural epitome of Turkish tribes at that time. According to the definition to proverb, we choose three hundred and twelve proverbs, thirty-three of which are repeated.The text has four parts. Chapter one is a summary of proverb study and make a clue of proverb'character,definition,composing unit and grammar structure. Chapter two has a overall study to the meaning of proverbs in The Diwan Lu at-it-Tyrk :first review and discuss the semantic study, then resolve some problems of semantic sort,semantic characteristics,semantic structure,semantic factor and semantic aggregation of the three hundred and twelve proverbs through some examples. Chapter three introduces metaphor theory and semantic disassembling scene, emphasizes some representative examples of proverb. Chapter four is a contrasted study of proverb meaning. It contrasts to Uighur proverbs,modern Uighur proverbs and Chinese proverbs, as well as semantic translation.Through the semantic study above, we can get a conclusion:the proverbs in The Diwan Lu at-it-Tyrk not only show some aspects of ancient Uighur people'physical and spiritual life, but contain people'thinking and perceiving style in the period of Karakhanid dynasty. The peculiar cultural symbolized significance of proverbs affords us some background to understand the proverbs in The Diwan Lu at-it-Tyrk through the perceiving tool—metaphor, and at the same time puts up a semantic information transform bridge from different fields for readers to understand non- mother tongue proverbs.
