Mr. Guo Shaoyu once said:"Poetry theory goes to its peak in Qing Dynasty."There were about three to four hundred kinds then. Not only did they go beyond the previous generation in kinds and quantity, but also do better than their predecessors in complication and appropriation."( A Sequel to Poetry Theory of Qing Dynasty·Preface) Yang Zhongxi's Notes on Classical Poetry in Xueqiao at the end of Qing Dynasty was one of the top characterized poetry theory works. This paper, which is based on Yang Zhongxi's status of a famous poet, scholar, poetry theorist, with Notes on Classical Poetry in Xueqiao as its object, focuses on the study to explore his thoughts of poetics and explores its literature value profoundly. This thesis includes the following three aspects:1. Outlining Notes on Classical Poetry in Xueqiao and some situations of the author. It includes the Birth and Death year of the author, official experiences, poems, and version, contents and collected poems of Notes on Classical Poetry in Xueqiao.2. An Analysis to poetical ideas Notes on Classical Poetry in Xueqiao .Through his criteria of poetry selection and his own poem writing, we achieve an analysis of his poetical thoughts. Yang Zhongxi's Park-based theory was based on study. He liked his poetry to be gentle and thick, pursued the quality of gentleness and profoundness."The most outstanding poets were Zhu Yizun, Wang Shizhen, Ye Xie, Shen Deqian in the early years of Ming Dynasty. All of them had a high regard for Zheng Sound, and eliminated the harmful wave of Yuan Mei, Jiang Shiquan, ZhaoYi, which was much beneficial to poetry…."Yang Zhongxi's poetry standards focused on fresh and clear art style, Yun by implication, to demonstrate truth aesthetic temperament. His own poetry was also in purpose of this artistic beauty.3. Exploring the history value of poetry. In perspective of poetry history, Yang Zhongxi looked for and kept literature records all of his life. His achievements are acknowledged by both domestic and foreign scholars. In his recording, the outstanding Eight Banners'poetry is kept in detail such as the Poetry of Nalan Xingde, Fa Shishan, Chang-an, Ying Lian, Tie Bao. Notes on Classical Poetry in Xueqiao saves a great mount of poetry and history records of Ming and Qing dynasties and is of great significance to the study of Qing poetry especially. In addition, this book is a Poetry History of Qing Dynasty. There are a lot of historic stories can be seen here. They are a great make up for cultural history. This book bases its root on human, and waves its way from poetry to other matters. With the purpose of recording poetry, it also reveals the tradition of poetry historic thoughts. It has a mutual reflection between people and poetry as well as between poetry and history. That is to say, poems and people testify each other here. The same is true between poems and history. It is in particular detail in the mountain hermit and Manchuria which makes it extremely important for latter scholars studying the poetry and history of Qing Dynasty.
