"Diwanu Lughatit Turk" is an annotated dictionary written by the great 11th century scholar and linguist, Mahmud al Kashgari, explaining in Arabic the languages spoken by the Turkic peoples of the time. It is an encyclopedic work with a unique form and an extensive content, and relates to many different domains. Almost a century has passed since the discovery of this work by the world of scholarship, and during that time a great deal of investigation and research has been carried out. Although notable results have been achieved in every field, there has, nevertheless, not bee a systematic and comprehensive examination of the literary parts of the .This article classifies the literary parts of the great scholar's "Diwanu Lughatit Turk" both according to their types and genres, and according to their literary characteristics. It analyses their content and artistic features, and seeks to clarify to some extent, and in some depth, the value of the literary, linguistic and cultural research which has already been carried out in relation to these literary parts. It also endeavors, by means of the conclusions drawn from these various studies and their results, to facilitate the work of future researchers into this subject. In short, its purpose is to advance research into the literary parts of the "Diwanu".The article comprises six sections in all. The first of these is an introduction, the basis of which is to give the purpose for which the present study has been undertaken, its significance, the points to be discussed, the goal to be reached, and the methods and steps by which this will be achieved.The second section (Chapter 1) gives a general explanation of the "Diwanu Lughatit Turk"; introduces the printed versions of the "Diwan" up to the present day and its translations in various languages; explains the situation regarding research into the "Diwan", both within and outside the country; and investigates studies and research relating to these subjects.The third section (Chapter 2) is a general discussion of the number, types and content of the literary parts of the "Diwan".The fourth section (Chapter 3) introduces the artistic features and stylistic methods used in these literary parts of the "Diwan".The fifth section (Chapter 4) deals with the value of culture, literary and linguistic research into the literary parts of the "Diwan"; and their place in our literary history.The sixth section is the conclusion and points out both the original aspects of this essay and its shortcomings the problems observed in previous research into this subject; and the need for further research on the same theme.
