Cognitive Studies On Existence Sentences In Modern Chinese

As a characteristic sentence type, existence sentence has been studied in diversified methods and gets quite a lot of achievements. At the end of 20^th century, with rise of cognitive linguistics, many scholars start inquirying into the existence sentence from the cognition and get great achievements. However, it is far from enough and leaves rooms for systematic deep research. Under the guidance of cognitive linguistics, basing on concrete language materials, this paper devotes to cognitive studying on existence sentences.The paper consists of five chapters, foreword and summary as well.The foreword makes an overall review of the studies done in the field concerned, a brief introduction to the significance of this study, its guidelines and methodology,also the criterion of differentiating existence sentences.The first chapter discusses general characters on cognitive of existence sentences. Based on cognitive linguistics,the forming reason and syntactical features of the existence sentences are analyzed. From the view of "figure-ground," syntactic iconicity, spatial dimention and information structure.The second chapter discusses different part characters on cognitive of existence sentences. Based on the "bounded-unbounded"concept analysis the A part of the existence sentence, and the function on settling direction of the directions phrase; Concerning the B part, discussing the cognitive features of the related verb and the action verb; Exist thing is prominence in the background, and have obvious boundary with the exterior space. Also, the cause of definiteness of exist thing is analyzed.The third chapter analyzed individual characters on pragmatic of existence sentences. People adopt different existence sentence to express the same field, have something to do with people's cognition view, reflecting people's different understanding of the objective affairs. From the cognize phrasing view, discussing the cognitive characters of "you (有)" construction, "Verb + you(有)" construction , "shi (是) " construction, "Verb + zhe (着) " construction,"Verb + le (了) " construction, national verb only construction and without verb construction.The forth chapter discuss the variation of existence sentence on cognitive. The cause of this formation is connected with our thinking activity and the cognition process. People carry out abundant association according to the objective fact, and through the association make the sentence deviate.The fifth chapter surveys the cognitive function of the existence sentence in the text. In the text, existence sentence appears cognitive reference function , ducting function and space conversion function.
