Li Yu. is another author who has achieved remarkable achievements in writing simulating colloquial stories after Feng Menglong and Ling Mengchu. His collections of colloquial short story like silent drama, twelve mansions represent the highest accomplishment of simulating colloquial stories in the Qing Dynasty. Since the 20th century, the study of Li Yu has become prosperous gradually and has attained significant results. These studies are mainly focused on the following aspects: the personality, thought and behavior characteristics of Li Yu, the creation and creation theories of his various styles, culture studies related to it, and so on.Although the study of Li Yu has been already comprehensive and intensive, characters described by Li Yu is still a comparatively complicated problem needed to explore in a deeper way. Based on the earnest study on Li Yu's works and through the collection, collation, and analysis of the related results, the dissertation topic will be designated as Study of Female images in Li Yu's novel.This paper, based on Li Yu's colloquial short stories, takes female images as the object, and makes systemic classification according to images of women involved in the stories. From the perspectives of roles assumed by these women in the stories and basic attitudes of the author, and combined with the time background and cultural atmosphere of the stories, the thesis analyses the social and cultural connotation reflected in images and creative ideas and attitudes to women possessed by the author. Meanwhile, the paper is trying to study on artistic features of female images in these works and to explore the achievement and shortcomings on female characters in Li Yu's stories.Based on previous research, this paper makes an overall analysis on female images in silent drama and twelve mansions from the aspects of Chinese traditional culture, female culture, and national psychology. We hope that we will explore the new field on studying characters in Li Yu's works through the further detailed and comprehensive discussion of female images in Li Yu's stories.
