Chinese Polysemy Functional Relationship And Application Research

The study of modern Chinese polysemy started from 1950s, several achievements have acquired. However, other significant issues remain. This paper will analyze the polysemy phenomenon from a new perspective with the aid of mathematical functions. And a new concept called semantic function will be raised. The new concept refers that the variation of dependent variable (Semantic value of a phrase or sentence) along with independent variable (phoneme, font, word meaning, sentence level, structural relation under the level, latent meaning).Every semantic function has its own independent variable scope and range of value within language field, but the variable changes applying in rhetoric, so the semantic value varies a lot. The research method defines the semantic in an originally changing system. Relative to traditional negative attitude (generally called "ambiguity"), the affirmative viewpoint could better reflect rich and varied of Chinese variation, in order to provide a novel point and search method.The paper includes five sections:First, introducing the past and present of Chinese polysemy research, then making briefly comments. Putting forward new point based on the analysis above, then giving a summary definition of Polysemy Function.Second, establishing semantic function framework composed by linguistic elements and semantics. Several methods including way of qualitative analysis, mathematical method and simulation method are commonly applied in term of linguistic elements. Based on Saussure' Formal Language and Automata Theory, and combining the characteristics of Chinese (the importance of Chinese characters in Chinese language),the text will sum up two styles in oral and writing, and establish semantic function consisting of internal and external functions, finally elaborate operational mechanism in detail.Third, the semantic function application in actual rhetoric: we will adopt Thinking Processes, Descriptive Method to illustrate the raised questions when disintegrating the frame and applying into rhetoric. There are two categories: regular and variation. Then I will analyze the generation mechanism of variation, and category it to intend creation and accidental misinterpret.Forth, the category of semantic function in application: We will adopt Case Analysis; focus on the category and application in three examples: Comic Dialogue, crosswords and net speak.Fifth, the thesis is concluded by pointing out some further research directions.
