| Rachmaninov was a world-renown composer, pianist, conductor of Russia from the end of 1800 to the beginning of 1900. He was the last mastery in classics after Tchaikovsky in Russian' s musical history. As a piano performing artist, his performance was widely recognized around the world by his unparallel one-of-a-kind skills; as a composer, the themes that he chosen was widely varied, which contributes to the mankind music heritage accumulation. Nowadays, there are abundant researches on Rachmaninov within the national scale, in particular, on his romance. Rachmaninov's romance is a milestone which remarks the threshold of another significant and new stage during those years in Russia with respect to the course of the music development. Besides, Rachmaninov romance represents the ultimate development of the traditional artistic style of lied of Europe. The paper primarily did a research on the following aspects, background of Rachmaninov, his career as a composer, the initiation of Russian romance and its development, the generalized description of Rachmaninov's romance, analysis on some of his representations and some final words.
