Writing is an indispensable part of college English learning. However, the present situation of college English writing teaching in China is far from satisfactory. Although many studies have been carried out concerning college English writing and teaching, writing teaching and learning has been perplexing English teachers and students. To solve the problem, different measures can be taken in class. In view of this, the paper made a tentative study to integrate writing with recitations to explore its efficiency in improving writing proficiency by applying it into the writing learning of college students. In terms of research methodology, this research employs both qualitative and quantitative studies, such as literature review, interview and experimental study. By means of reviewing related writing development theories and recent empirical studies both abroad and domestic, the paper presents a conceptual understanding of the research question and a holistic picture of writing development study. The experiment lasting one term was designed and carried out specifically for research question: 1) Is recitation an effective way to improve English writing? 2) Is recitation more beneficial to improve the English writing ability of the students who has poor English grammar? 3) Can the material of the recitation also influence students'English writing? The results demonstrate that recitation is an efficient way and it can establish certain foundation for learner's linguistic development. So, it can be employed by both teachers and learners as an efficient way in teaching and learning. It is revealed from the interview that most of the students hold a positive attitude toward recitation. They consider recitation as an effective but painful strategy to enhance English writing.Like all empirical studies, this study has some limitations. Firstly, data collection techniques are simple. Secondly, the sample under investigation is relatively small. Thirdly, the research period is short. Therefore, most of the results obtained in present study are left to be further verified and improved in the future.
