This thesis runs its systematic discussion on the exploration of theoretical guidance of soft news translation on the basis of the analysis of the features of soft news translation. The present study finds that the traditional equivalence-oriented translating theories cannot go on well with and guide the soft news translation, while the Skopostheorie derived from functionalism can reasonably guide the soft news translation and act as the theoretical framework of soft news translation efficiently. Thus, the present study will make a further investigation of the applicability of Skopostheorie in guiding soft news translation. Different from previous studies: this article has not been limited to the application of traditional theories of translation as the merely theoretical framework to guide soft news translation, but through the detailed analysis of specific examples of soft news translation collected from various channels, combining with the explicit interpretation of the specific content implied in Skopostheorie and elaborated by relevant experts, the thesis concludes that the Skopostheorie can well play the role of acting as the theoretical framework to guide soft news translation. This article consists of five parts. The first part is a brief introduction of the research background, the research question, the research significance, the research methodology and data collection of soft news translation and the structural arrangement the thesis. Based on the first part, the second part makes a general literature review concerned with the characteristics of news and soft news translation. Detailed descriptions of Skopostheorie and the related theories are arranged in the third part. Some of the detailed analyses and elaborations of concrete examples of soft news translation are provided in the fourth part. Through these analyses, the thesis concludes that: Skopostheorie is the optimal theoretical framework in guiding soft news translation. The fifth part is the concluding part, which is the conclusion of this thesis. Simultaneously, the author fulfills the thesis with a summary of this article by making the further implication, pointing out limitations and delimitations, and providing more speculations for further research on concerned fields.
