This article presents a detailed investigation of the fresco Shui Yue Kwan-yin in East Thousand-Buddha Cave grotto in Guazhou county which gets from copying painting in practice,make a short and to the point analysis on history background in Xixia,motif characteristics of Shui Yue Kwan-yin as well as the subject of getting sutra by Xuan Zang too.The fresco is great and neat which does not limit on prats of it,instead,pay attention to constructing the whole conception.There are several artistic features of this fresco as follow: the Landscape paintings as the background of the Shui Yue Kwan-yin reflects the style of the group of Landscape in South Song dynasty whose numbers are Ma Yuan,Xia Gui and so on;as far as the line of the pictures is concerned, there are the comprehensive use and improvement of the literary figures of the central part of China in their artistic achievement and the combination of Tibetan iron line style in its strength,delicate and smoothness; in colour ,there are the gentle and brief features in pictures by the literary figures of Sino and their artistic style and taste ,meanwhile,there are also the Tibetan styles in its thick and stately colour use .The artistic style of Xixia which has an intensive expression the quality of Dangxiang nationality art is influenced by aesthetic taste in the Sino first and the new style which is as a result of seeping on Buddhism propagated by Tibetan.
