The mural of Kwan-yin Temple in Xinjin is one of the famous Buddhist murals in the Ming Dynasty and has a highly historical and artistic value.The mural of Xiangshanquantang locates in the Pilu hall in the temple.A thousand-armed Kwan-yin lies in the center of the mural,surrounded by the performance of the Kwan-yin's life story,a total of 25.The inscriptions of the mural show that it was painted in Ming Dynasty's Chenghua fourth year(1468),repainted in Qing Dynasty's Qianlong twentyfirst year(1756).The introduction studies the academic background and significance about the subject,and summarizes and analyzes the current research achievements in this field.The thesis includes three chapters.The first introduces the history of Kwan-yin Temple in Xinjin,and the structure of the Pilu hall in the temple.It confirms the specific reasons for the creation in Ming Dynasty and the redecoration in Qing Dynasty.The second analyzes the image of the mural of Xiangshanquantang,and finishes the detailed contrast between "scripture" and "painting".The story content of ?13 in the mural decomposition diagram is portrayed and verified,and it also verifies the contents of ?14?15 ?18.Finally,the whole content of the mural is completely verified by innovation.Besides,making a discuss on the modelling characteristics and the followers of the Thousand-armed Kwan-yin is to study aesthetic characteristics and beliefs of Thousand-armed Kwan-yin in Sichuan area.The third comparatively studies the artistic style of the mural by using the methods of iconography and stylistics,starts from its color and line,composition and character modeling and so on.Finally,it proves the origins of its style,the style of the capital of a country,the style of local art,the style of opera paintings in Song and Yuan Dynasties.
