The Grammaticalization And Rhetoric Of Monosyllabic Degree Adverb

According to the theory of grammaticalization, this study based on previous studies,discusses the grammaticalization of a kind of adverb from the diachronic point of view,which is frequently used, and rhetorical theory which is a mechanism for grammaticalization. This article focuses on the first phase of the grammaticalization phenomenon,that is the Conversion from noun,verb and adjective to adverb. The Classification of the words is on the basis of the original meaning, selects the typical words and describes them respectively, selects recorded typical examples of all the times as much as possible to illustrate the grammaticalization of them. In the basis of diachronic description,this paper attempts to apply psychological theory to explain the formation mechanism of the grammaticalization of degree adverbs. The grammaticalization of degree adverbs is a creative conversion of concept from one cognitive domain (original concept) to another cognitive domain (target concept).The conversion is the process of abstraction and grammaticalization. Metonymy and metaphor constitute an important mechanism for this transformation. The grammaticalization of degree adverbs is divided into two parts:one part is the process of separation of notional words from the concrete meaning to the abstract meaning,another is the coexistence of the concrete meaning and the abstract meaning , until the abstract meaning replaces the concrete meaning. The former is metonymy,and the latter is metaphor. The phenomenon of the grammaticalization of adverbs is confirmed through subjective role, ultimately, to complete its process of the grammaticalization.This study is not limited to the extent of a micro-study of adverbs,but rise to the level of a sub-level adverb through the analysis of some typical adverbs. The degree of adverbs and the syntax description of the process mechanism and syntax analysis of the organic integration.The thesis consists of three parts:Part one: First,the study introduces the theories of grammaticalization briefly, then puts forward the view of the article,it is that the grammaticalization is achieved through the rhetoric. Second, the article describes the reason for selecting the degree adverbs for the study in this paper.Part two: The study arranges all of the existing degree adverbs,and classifies the words according to the original meaning. The words are divided into three categories:one is from noun to adverb,two is from verb to adverb,three is from adjective to adverb. And the article selects a lot of typical sentences to describe the words one by one.Part three: According to the collation of the adverbs and the specific analysis of a typical word, we get the conclusion that rhetoric is the reason of grammaticalization.
