Japanese reception of western music in 19th century is a revised edition of professor Cukahara Yasuko's doctoral dissertation. From a special view of musical events, this publication analyses and studies the japanese conditions of its reception of western music and explains why wesern music could take root and develop in Japan.Through comparation between this work and other publications in the same area, my book review mainly discusses the characteristics and values in terms of its realm of research, perspectives and historical resourses. In addition, I pointed out some places that have the space for further improvements. Knowledge gained through translation and nodi are also included in this part.
