In 1920 s to 1930 s, the musical form of Shanghai has gradually developed in a diversified direction from obedience of tradition to coexistence of tradition and modern, as well as integration of professional music system in the West and the folk music, forming the first peak of Chinese modern music in the history.Based on analysis of the musical forms in this period, such as the“era music”, “professional music” and the “left-wing music”, this paper describes the development history of Shanghai music in this period in detail, summarizing its achievements and represents the scenes of its musical events. This paper includes five sections which are the introduction, chapter?to chapter ?.Introduction mainly explains the research status, significance, innovation and research methods.Chapter?is about exploration of “Era Song”. Based on research of the social background and historical situation for the rise of Era Song, this chapter carries out description of the era song events and its overseas tours in dance halls, cinemas and the recording industry. And then from aspects of “emerging of new musical types, promotion of civilian musical idea, laying the foundation for the late pop music”, it sums up the achievements of the era song.Chapter ?is exploration of professional music events. It describes the origin and development of the professional music. Combined with the holding of concerts, establishment of various musical societies and associations, as well as the establishment of professional music publications, it introduces the various types of events in the professional music. And it also summarizes the achievements of the professional music from aspects of the“personnel training, work creation, promotion of integration of Chinese and Western musical forms”.Chapter ? is about the left-wing music of Shanghai in 1930 s. It discusses the rise of the left-wing musical movement, and draws the outline of the overall look of Shanghai music at that time through the musical events of the three left-wing musicians NIE ER, REN GUANG and LV JI. And then it sums up the achievements of the left-wing music in “creating musical types, providing background to the left-wing films, promoting realistic creation”, and so on.Chapter ? describes the whole characteristics of Shanghai music in 1930 s. From two aspects of the“diversified and symbiotic musical scene” and “meaningful music attempt”, it states the characteristics reflected by Shanghai music, such as diversification of types and musical life.
