Alfred·Westharp’s Study On Music Aesthetics With Alfred Westharp’s Research On The Comparison Of Chinese And Western Cultures

Weixiqin(1882―?),his alternate name is Weizhong and his English name is Alfred Westharp,German American.Twentieth Century,Alfred Westharp came to China.He was engaged with educational and cultural experiments,at the same tine,he proposed his psychology philosophy and cultural view and education view.On this basis,the author summarized Alfred Westharp’s musical psychology philosophy and musical aesthetics and musical education view.The research method were the philology,aesthetic speculation,pedagogy,psychology and so on.Musical psychology philosophy: music is the most approach to the sprite in sensory activity and the highest creation in the spiritual power.Musical aesthetics:oriental music is based on psychology and consciousness,expresses willingness and natural,reflects logic and philosophy,but the Western music is based on the acoustics and physiology;According to Alfred Westharp understanding on Chinese and Western music,at the same time,according the differences between Chinese and Western traditional culture,the author analyzed the difference of the functions,aesthetic and form between Chinese and Western music.Musical education view: abolished the factors that hinder the expression of spirit in music and encouraged the “moving music”(scientical music).Alfred Westharp emphasized the relationship between music an morality.The study highlights the value of two aspects.one is the value of modern music history,the anther is the value of the history of Chinese music aesthetics and its significance.As a German,Alfred Westharp extremely admired for Chinese music that aspires the comfort of life and the realization of soul.According to the author’s understanding,the two World War centered on Germany leaded to the spirit of nowhere to place on the early twentieth Century.Alfred Westharp selected the Oriental music in order to find the comfort of life and the realization of soul.
