China's animation is a young art. The first color cartoon of China is the award-winning work"Why Are the Crows Black"in the eighth Venice Children's Film Show held in 1956. It is just half a century since the birth of this film. Compared with the ancient traditional Chinese folk art, it is really a very young art. We know that the culture and art is inherited from generation to generation in the development of history and any form of arts is not created out of thin air. They are all the results of mutual penetration, transformation, continuous improvement and constant sublimation. The Chinese animation art drew a lot of nutrition and elements from the Chinese ancient folk art at the very beginning. We can see the flashes of the brilliance of Chinese folk art from the animation modeling, color and the forms of its expression. It can be said that the Chinese animation had already absorbed the essence of the Chinese folk art since the cartoon"Borrow Plantains"which was made by Chinese first generation animator Wan Laiming in the thirties. Since the cartoon"Havoc in Heaven"had been made after China's liberation, Chinese animation is even more like the embodiment of traditional Chinese art in all its forms and the inherent spirit, which laid a unique animation style of the national characteristics. It continuously developed, improved and enriched in the later decades, reaching its peak in the eighties and nineties in last century, which won the international praise and all kinds of international animation awards. These achievements closely related to the tradition of Chinese folk culture and elements of decorative arts it absorbed. Animation art is of course, an integrated arts. It combines the artistic elements of visual, auditory, films and time and absorbed the essence of our country's drama, painting, movies, music and other arts. "Havoc in Heaven" absorbed the style of Dunhuang and Yongle temple frescoes in design, and absorbed elements of Chinese opera, such as drums, cymbals and other musical instruments in music. Water-inc cartoon like"Pipe"and"A Small Tadpole Finds His Mother"absorbed the essence, lines and methods of traditional Chinese painting."Five-colored deer"obviously has the artistic style of the Tang Dynasty. The author adopted the color and form of expression of Dunhuang mural. In the process of mirroring the national life and national psychology, reflecting the nation's way of life and way of thinking, inheriting traditions and the spirit of Chinese art, learning the national cultural heritage and exploring how film and animation combines with modern arts, the Chinese animation gradually formed its own unique style. Distinctive ethnic characteristics, as well as different means of artistic expression make animated films in China unique in the world.
