In the Chinese vocabulary research field, the problem of lexicalization has typically much value on theoretical and practical applications. Taking as the subject the common modern Chinese disyllabic word " jushuo (reputedly)", which is often used to express evidentiality. This paper does systematic research on the history of lexicalization, at the same time, the paper also examines issues of preliminary analysis on the lexicalization motivation and mechanisms of"jushuo", as well as its pragmatic position and pragmatic features in modern Chinese. The whole paper is divided into three parts.The introduction introduces the history and current situation of the lexicalization research, clarifies the significance of the subject, describes the research methods, and establishes the research object.The body carefully describes and analyzes the lexicalization process of"jushuo",and preliminarily studies the causes and mechanisms and related functions of the word. Chapter one mainly discusses the word class, the course of semantic evolution and the special usage of"jushuo". Chapter two investigates the course of"jushuo"from the emergence and formation of the word and describes its performance in modern history and modern Chinese. Chapter three interprets the special motivation to form the word"jushuo"and discusses the changes in modern Chinese and the problems in how to judge the word class of"jushuo". Chapter four analyzes the relationship between"jushuo"and parenthesis and the textual features of"jushuo"in the modern Chinese language.The conclusion summaries the whole paper and points out the complexity of lexicalization and the mechanism of motivation, the diversity of semantics and usage, and the richness of pragmatic and textual features. Finally, by indicating the particularities of lexicalization of"jushuo", the author further explores the cross-layer structure of lexicalization and gives some suggestions for further research and classification .
