The Study Of The Development Of Louguan Taoism In The Northern Dynasties

Taoism developed to the Wei and Jin Dynasties, has entered an important Period of reform. Especially in northern areas of China, dued to be understanded by the Gentries and social upper class, Taoism itself must reform itself to adapt to the new environment. The development of Louguan Taoism in the Northern Dynastie,shows Taoism reform and change in the Northern and Southern Dynasties, and has an positive impact to the development of Taoism.In this paper, based on the development of Louguan Taoism in the Northern Dynasties, we focuse on the features of Louguan Taoism that shows in the development in Northern Dynasties. First, we discuss that Louguan Taoism wrote,based on the historical records, about Louguan Taoism was started from Laozi gave the book named 5000 Words and teached the Taoism practice to Yin Xi. By this way, Louguan Taoism improved their own position in the Taoism, and gave an explaination about the long history of Louguan Taoism. Second we talk about in the Wei and Jin Dynasties, the four famous priests of Louguan Taoism, named Liang Chen, Wang Jia, Sun Che and Ma Jian, impactd on society and be attention by the Royal administration and the society.Partâ…¡:the development of Louguan Taoism Northern Wei Dynasty. In this part we mainly discuss about the development of Louguan Taoism in the Northern and Southern Dynasties. In the Northern Wei Dynasty, the priests of Louguan Taoism began to repair the Temples, buy books, spread Taoism and do nice things for people. So Louguan Taoism, supported by the Royal administration,can impact on the society much, Meanwhile, Royal administration,sometimes would build a temple for one famous Taoism priest. When Yu Wen Yong ban Buddhism and Taoism, the Louguan Taoism priests protected the Louguan Taoism by their activities. The other one is the reason for setting Tongdao Temple on and the persons who work in the Tongdao Temple. Integrating the Confucian, Buddhism and Taoism is the purpose of setting Tongdao Temple. In Northern Zhou Dynasty, Louguan Taoism had four features. The first is that Louguan Taoism respected Laozi. For the development of outer alchemy,Laozi,as the first God, was weekened by other factions.But Louguan Taoism always respected Laozi, and ensure the Laozi position,which affect the development of Taoism greatly. The second is that the priests practise based on approach to Kiyonaga. Before Tang Dynasty, outer alchemy was very popular. But the priests of Louguan Taoism adhered to the main Kiyonaga, which was very difficult. The third is that establish the system of master teaching apprenticeship and the systen of the Temple owned by all the priests. In the Northern and Southern Dynasties, the temple always belonged to someone.But all the priests of Louguan Taoism owned the temples, and the master teaching the apprenticeship.Depending on above, Louguan Taoism builded a stable relationship with the Royal administration.The forth is Taoism-good and Buddhism-bad.
