| Sishengpianhai, compiled by Han Daozhao of Jin Dynasty, is available ancient dictionary that collected the most characters till now, which only been reorganized and researched thoroughly recent years. But this dictionary makes some negative effect on descendant dictionaries because of its liberal character collection, excessive character acceptance and few mistakes.Zhiyinpian of Zhang Fu in Ming Dynasty was compiled on the basis of Sishengpianhai. Zhiyinpian accepts characters from Sishengpianhai with selection. The easy recognized wrong characters from Sishengpianhai were corrected in Zhiyinpian. And for characters that are variant, Zhiyinpian put the variant form under the regular script remark, with note "ditto". As to sound character without meaning, Zhiyinpian listed them at the end of every volume so that these sound characters without meaning would not be mixed up with characters in the text. Also the layout mode shows innovation ideas.With guidance of philology, the exegesis of ancient texts and lexicology theory, and on the basis of familiarity with the original content and related study results of Zhiyinpian and Sishengpianhai, this dissertation makes closed and exhaustive investigation on zitou of Zhiyinpian and Sishengpianhai, depicts objectively the differences between these two dictionaries on zitou acceptance and grapheme and concludes the character acceptance principle of Zhiyinpian. Comprehensive contrastive study of characters in these two dictionaries can rectify character acceptance and grapheme mistakes happened in the process of compilation, writing copy and circulation. Summarizing of experience and lessons of large dictionary compilation from old generations can provide reference for hereafter compilation of large dictionary. And the contrastive research of characters of these two dictionaries can also supply material to large dictionary on difficult character textual research and benefit Chinese lexicology and lexicon history research.
