Islam revival movement during the period of the Republic of China is a historical revival of China's Islam after its declining. It's also an overall revival on the economy, politics, ideology and culture of Chinese Moslem's society. This thesis attempts to describe and explain the revival movement carefully and thoroughly according to the great backgrounds of Islamic development and the modern social changes in China. To incorporate this revival movement of modern China's Islam into the great environments of modern Chinese social changes, it does a comparative analysis with a series of modern Chinese social changes such as the "May Fourth Movement" or conscientious course of nationality at that time. It reveals the special meaning of the revival movement for either China's Islam or its society. Contemporarily, as the leaders and participants in this revival movement, the Hui intellectuals'life experience, academic thought and their relationships with that Islam society represented by Da Pusheng all have fully reflected the essential characteristics of the Islam revival movement. The investigation of the Islam revival thought and religion practice not only describes the full view of Islam revival movement in the Republic of China further, but also establishes such a purport for this thesis: The thought process of the Hui intellectuals represented by Da Pusheng is the subject and essence of the Islam revival movement in the Republic of China.The thesis is divided into three parts: the first part is the introduction, mainly about the explanation to the purpose and meaning of the chosen thesis title, the research current situation, the innovation and research approach. The second part, from chapter one to chapter four, is an argumentation subject of the article. Chapter one is the retrospect of China's Islam development, which aims at proving that the revival movement is caused by the historical accumulation of China's Islam development. Chapter two is the description and analysis of the historical background of this revival movement-- the modern Chinese society. And it's also a summary of Islam revival movement in the worldwide, investigating the global environments that China's Islam in that period is. Chapter three mainly discusses Da Pusheng and his Islam revival thought. Because the essence of the revival movement is the revival of China's Islam on the ideology and culture, the research to the idea of the revival movement has become the key of the whole article. Chapter four reveals the relationship between the Hui intellectuals and Islam revival movement in the Republic of China. And it's also a brief summary of the first three chapters, aiming at proving that the thought process of the Hui intellectuals represented by Da Pusheng is the subject and essence of the revival movement. The third part is the conclusion, mainly to reveal the historical meaning of Islam revival movement in the Republic of China.
