Children's emotional competence refers to the ability to recognize and understand the emotion from one another of child, so they can regulate and express self-emotions appropriately. In another word, the children's emotional competence is composed of three main parts:emotion expression, emotion understanding and emotion regulation. The emotional competence plays an important role in children's socialization, mental health and even the lifelong development as one of the key factor of non-intelligence factors. The kindergarten, as an important environment in the process of children's growth, is the base of children's emotional education. Therefore, this study uses emotional picture story books as an important material for emotional education in kindergarten and makes great effort in exploring the possible emotional education mode, which aims at promoting the young children's emotional competence.This study used action research as the main research method, by selecting a kindergarten teacher as the study cooperator in a Chongqing kindergarten, and combining with observation, interview and analysis of materials, this study explore how to use emotional picture books to carry out the emotional education in kindergarten by practice. Firstly, theoretically, based on the features of the emotional intelligence theory, bibliotherapy, picture books teaching theory, physiological and psychological development patterns of young children and the existing achievements, this thesis proposes an emotional program from perspectives of educational goals, contents, practice, and evaluation. Secondly, by applying the program, a practice is carried out in the kindergarten for children 4 or 5 years old, with the cooperation between my cooperator and me. After the process of practice→reflection→practice, we summarized a emotional education mode with emotional picture books in kindergarten, and formed a set of effective program of activities, including:reading and discussing picture books (basic activity), drawing emotional pictures and story performance (independent activity),story sharing time (integration of existing activity) and mood diary (integration into the daily life of children).The study also used experimental method, which was designed as front-back test, combining quantitative data and qualitative analysis to test the validity of the whole education program and the feasibility of use the emotional picture books to promote children's emotional competence. The study indicated that the use of emotional picture books can improve children's ability to express emotion, understand emotion and regulate emotion. The emotional picture books can be used as an appropriate material to promote young children's emotional competence in the kindergarten.
