The Suzong to Shunzong Period (756 AD-805 AD) was an important period for Tang Dynasty because it witnessed the decline and fall of the Great Empire. The Epitaphs, although long buried underground, vividly recorded the social disorders of the war-torn history because they escape from human tampering and damage during the circulation process and tell us the true stories of history.The document authenticity of epitaph was strong enough to provide accurate literature basis for the study of ancient history, literature, folklore, religion and languages, and scripts.The epitaph, as one kind of unearthed documents, could only be utilized for the study purpose of various disciplines after explanation and collation. Collation is the very basis of literature review process, which includes the selection of rubbings of variant forms, the research and discern of wrong and false folk characters. The epitaphs from Suzong to Shunzong Period ranked top in numbers, however, due to the stone erosion, rubbing quality and folk characters variants, the current annotations are defective and unsystematic. Therefore, it is necessary to collect, collate the epitaphs of this period and strive to provide a more authentic and reliable text for the study of arious disciplines.The thesis picks the Dang Dynasty's Epitaph Compilation (Suzong to Shunzong Period) "as original script, selects different research materials for proofreading, choose those rubbings as references, and at the same time use inscriptions as evidence. Based on the detailed, circumspect inspection and in-depth analysis of epitaph compilation, the thesis tries to provide some methodological perspective for the collation and study of inscriptions literatures.
