Nowadays, the relationship between emotion and memory becomes a hot topic in neuropsychology. As the improvement of researeh technique, we already had got plentiful and substantial evidence in this field. Reviewing the existing research, most of them focused on the impact of affective state, emotional arousal or emotional valance on memory. However, there were barely studies that were interested in the extent of emotion-induced and their effect on memory. A cumulative appetitive effects was found in serial researches which used emotional pictures as induced emotion material. Whether the cumulative appetitive effect could be developed in the interaction of emotion and memory. So, our present study inveatigated the discrepancy impact of emotion induced by sustained pictures presentation and transient pictures presentation on memory. Our study includes two related experiments, a behavioral and an ERP experiment. The behavioral experiment which was mixed design had two factors, one was emotional valance as a factor within subjects and another was emotion-induced as a factor between subjects. The behavioral results showed that words studied in sustained-induced emotion were poorer recognition than in transient-induced emotion. Further analysis indicated that both cumulative appetitive effect and emotional interference effect were existed, and the emotional interference effect was tiny when it was compared with cumulative appetitive effect. An ERP study was designed to to explore neural mechanism of the impact of the emotion induced on memory. In order to minimize the interference effect, the time interval of learning block was extend and neutral emotion was ruled out in ERP experiment. First of all, the ERP results was consistent with behavioral results which words studied in transient induced emotion were better memoried. Secondly, cumulative appetitive effect was mainly found in positive valance and the emotional valance effect was showed both in sustained and transient emotional-induced. The transient induced emotional valance effect appeared early in encoding phase, and the sustained induced emotional valance effect had wider distribution of scalp and longer lasting of time course. because the deflection of diffenert wave(DW) was reverse in two emotional valance effect, maybe it meant that neutral mechanise underlied two kinds of valance effects was totally different. Thirdly, although subjects were not directly under the influencen of induced emotion in probe phase, their ERP also performed cumulative appetitive effect and emotional valance effect in memory recognition. N400 and P600 observed in probe phase both indicated that sustained induced emotion influenced connection intensity between verbal and semantic node to block memory cognition. Finally, cumulative appetitive effect occurred in the left hemisphere which was congruous with left lateralization of language.
