A Discussion Of The Status And Effect Of Wang Anshi Baojia System

Wang Anshi is a famous litterateur and politician in the Northern Song Dynasty. He is also one of the most controversial personalities in the history of China. On the one hand, as a litterateur, Wang Anshi received the unanimous praise. On the other hand, as a politician, he caused a great deal of controversy in the past ten centuries from Xining Reform. Different people have different attitudes to the reform, therefore, evaluations on Wang Anshi are different. Baojia law is an important part of the Xining Reform, and its role, status and significance are also controversial.As a system of grass-roots political power organizations, Baojia system was promoted closely related with economic and social conditions. In this paper, our research started from the most basic means of production of Chinese rural society-land tenure, and then analyzed the differences of promotional purpose, presentation format and roles of Baojia system under different land tenure and economic basis.In this paper, neither Wang Anshi nor his reforms, or success or failure of Baojia system have been discussed. However, the truth from facts and inheriting in a critical manner, and extract the previous work from different aspects are being seeked. Standing on the perspective of the development, the differences of social product, land system and military system compared with previous dynasties have been studied, and we analyzed the reasons and manifestations of the governability crisis in Northern Song Dynasty before reforms. The purposes of Baojia law implemented by Wang Anshi in Xining Reform, the situations and trends before and after the implementation of Baojia law have been also discussed. Investigations on the status and functions of Wang Anshi's Baojia law in the development of Northern Song Dynasty have been described and Baojia system in our country is analyzed with the expectation to see the original appearance of Baojia law from a different review. At the critical moment of reform and development and to build a prosperous society, we are depending on practical and realistic scientific research and analysis while discarding the dross together with assimilating the essence, inheriting and carrying forward excellent traditional cultures. We are continuing with the past and opening up the future.
