2007 newly enacted teaching syllabus has a higher demand for college English teaching, in which the objective of College English is to develop students'ability to use English in a well-round way, especially in listening and speaking, so as to meet the needs of China's social development and international exchange. Meanwhile, a new teaching model was proposed in College English Curriculum Requirements, which is Computer- and Classroom- Based College English Teaching Model. To meet the need of new teaching requirements, colleges and universities actively develop the reform of college English teaching model. One of the objectives of the reform is to promote the development of individualized study methods and the autonomous learning ability on part of the students.Firstly, this thesis has introduced the applications and developing status of computer and network-mediated teaching models both at home and abroad, and claims that network teaching will witness a positive development and widespread application. Secondly, combined quantitative analysis with qualitative analysis, this thesis has taken the empirical surveys on"2+1+X"English teaching model in Hebei University of Science and Technology, a demonstration school of national college English teaching reform. By way of interviews and questionnaires, this thesis has carried out an investigation on part of the English teachers and second-year non-English majors.Based on the analysis and research of the results, this thesis found the main problems in application process of the new teaching model, which mainly focused on the two aspects: placement system, quality control in autonomous learning. At the meantime, it proposed a serial of countermeasures, including a further deviation of placement system, the change of teachers'role, the implementation of self-control and peer-control and so on. The implementation of these measures will help to improve the new college English teaching model.The proposed suggestions on Computer- and Classroom- Based College English Teaching Model in this thesis will have reference significance for future study.
