Objectives:l.to investigate the level of subjective well-being (SWB) of academics in Hunan province; 2. to explore the relationship between life index and SWB; 3. to test the structural equation model of life events, coping style and SWB.Methods:In this study,400 academics completed the SWB questionnaire, life events scale and coping style questionnaire. The model was tested by structural equation model.Results and conclusions:1. There is no difference between different sex, major and marriage. The scores of above 50-year-old academics are higher than the other academics on positive affection and self-stated happiness. The scores of professors are higher than associate professors, assistants,lecturers on life satisfaction.2. The academic's SWB is high related to some specific life index, such as income, living condition, physical and mental state, achievement of objectives and so on.3. Coping style could mediate the relationship between life events and SWB.Suggestions:We advise to heighten the job enthusiasm of academics, improve the wages and conditions of working, establish good social support networks for academics and build harmonious relations.
