At present, Korean Peninsula is still in the state of North-South division. The reunification of North-South Korea, as one of the focus of the international community, is the key for the stability and development of entire Northeast Asian. Because of its unique location, Korean Peninsula had become a major conflict in the history for many times. She has an unique role in terms of geopolitical value. That's why Korean has been the victim of power politics. For the United States, Korean Peninsula is very important for her to constraint Soviet Union after World Warâ…¡.After the outbreak of the Pacific War in December 1941, the United States began to consider the political future of the Korea which had been occupied by Japanese for decades. The United States did not accept Korea's request of immediate post-war independency. Instead, she proposed a post-war Korea trusteeship, which had a huge influence on the post-war reconstruction of Korea and was to some extent the cause of North-South division. In the post-war policy of Korean, the United States only took into account the interests of all the major host countries. The wish and need of Korean people were excluded in the process of decision making. After World Warâ…¡, the end of the US-Soviet wartime alliance and the beginning of cold war posted a tremendous impact on Korean policy implementation. The non-cooperation between the United States and Soviet had been a great resistance. Finally, the north and South Korean established their own regime respectively, which announced the failure of post-war Korean policy. The limitation of U.S. post-war Korean policy determined its failure. As one of adherents of Marxist historical materialism, the author believes that the development of things is the result of the internal and external causes; external factors must play a role through internal factors; internal factors are the key of the development. The Korean people are the subject and internal factor of Korean policy. Therefore, Korean policy must properly reflect the wish and need of Korean people, which is the element of success. The other countries only play the supporting role. The thesis evaluated the cause of Korean peninsula division from a historical perspective. The evaluation of the United States'Korean policy was split into three stages:early stage of World Warâ…¡, late stage of World Warâ…¡and post World Warâ…¡. The development of the Korea policy was in accordance with the strength of the United States. The policy had its own feasibility to some extent. But the policy had little consideration in the interest of Korean people, which was the main reason of the failure.
