The Study On Nangyang Placenames From The Angle Of Cultural Linguistics

Place-name is proper noun in vocabulary system. It has the same characteristic with the other proper nouns, and also owns some special features. The composition of the place-name has a certain grammar rule, and terms of place-name have close connection with national language and dialects. Place name may be said and written in different variations, so we must apply the standardization principles of language to dealing with contemporary standardization of geographical name. All of these show that the place-name is one of the important contents of linguistics, In addition, there is rich social and cultural connotations in place name, therefore, the research of place-name also has certain value in social and cultural field.By virtue of linguistic theories and methods, this thesis interprets and analyses the place names of Nanyang systematically from from sociolinguistics perspective. The research of this paper will help to dig and protect geographic culture of Nanyang, and also deepen people's understanding of the linguistic rules. Considering the existing problems in Nanyang present geographic names, this article puts forward some proposals ahout their standardization, which also have certain practical value.The paper is divided into six parts, each chapter of content is as follows.The first chapter is the introduction, which introduces a geographical and historical overview on Nanyang, presents Current research in the area of Nanyang Place names, and interprets the purpose, the significance, the methods and the Language materials origin of this article.The second chapter discusses the linguistic characteristics of place names of Nanyang. It shows the phonetic characteristics of Nanyang place names from syllable characteristic, Level and oblique tones and Spoken rhyme changed, and it shows the glossary characteristics of Nanyang place names from structural and word usage aspects. Simultaneously, it also analyses some rhetoric features which is relating to Nanyang place name.The third chapter reveals cultural connotations reflected by Nanyang geographic names. It analyses geographical cultural features from the aspects of place names and landscape, place names and economy, place names and military. It analyses social cultural psychology from the aspects of place names and clan ideas, place names and religion, place names and totemismThe forth chapter summaries three trends of evolution of Nanyang place names, namely, the contents of geographic names trend to be diversified, the structures of geographic names trend to be scientific and the terms of geographic names trend to be elegant.The fifth chapter firstly analyses the necessity of standardization in place names, and then summaries the existing problems in present place names of Nanyang. finally,it puts forward some advices about the standardization of Nanyang place names.The sixth chapter is the conclusion of the paper, which gives a Comprehensive review and summary.
