This thesis takes modal adverb"daodi"as the object of study in the modern Chinese.We make a multi-angle investigation of"daodi"by means of combining linguistic from with meaning,statistics with analysis,induction with deduction .We probe into and analyze the semantic that"daodi"conceys ,grammatical meaning, syntactic features and pragmatic functions ,based on the result of previous reseach.The whole thesis consists of three parts.The concrete contents are as following:The first part is the preface,which introduces the object of research,purpose and significance of research ,the train of thought and method of the research,and the state of predecesors'research and the sources of corpus.The second part is the body ,these are three chapters.Chapter one is the semantic analysis of"daodi".Firstly, we redefine the grammatical meaning of"daodi",highlight the"final analysis"of"daodi".Secondly,we conclude the semantic characteristic of"daodi"which are measure of meaning, subjectivity and meaning attributed throught the semantic-feature analysis. Finally, we summarize three semantic structure models. Chapter two is syntactic features. firstly ,We describe the syntactic features of X among"daodi+X"struture, and the restriction or requirement for X. Secondly, we describe the elements that accompany by"daodi". Finally, we discuss the especial pattern"daodishi",and examine"NP+daodi+shi+NP"structural problems in the property before and after the NP, and the fissure trend of"daodishi".Chapter three is the pragmatic function of"daodi".We sum up the four functions: presentation function, Cohesive features, highlighting the focus of information , specify presupposition function, and enhance emotional function.The third part is the conclusion.We sum up the contents of this paper.And point out that the deficiencies.
