The world of metaphor is a world of poetic myth, a world of religious. The poetry, mythology and religion are all rooted in the original metaphor, or the original'unity of beings'. "â‘ His poetic expression may be the perfect way of expressing metaphor world, but for the need of writing this paper, I have to try to convert it to corresponding language: People first transform their feelings of the surrounding into a number of metaphorical items, then they combine these items in accordance with the appropriate laws of metaphor to produce thus a metaphor world. The imagination is the means of conversion in the conversion process; and in the metaphorical-world-gengerating process, synesthesia is"the appropriate law"which I have mentioned above. In other words, imagination is a means of understanding the world and the basis of the metaphor. whereas synesthesia is the rule to generate metaphors into a world through a sense of rational order, as well as the basis of the metaphors to communicate with each other in the world.This paper attempts to explain how the imagination converts the feelings into the metaphorical items in the process of the formation of the metaphor world, while how the items are organized into an organic world by synesthesia: The feelings is inward, it is closed in itself and speechless, it has no way to express themselves. All the feelings are closed because people can only feel the the world but not communicate with others. The Synesthesia can solve these problems, it classifies the similar feelings and looks for the channels of communication; imagination gives the feeling the images as a language, thus achieving the purpose of the communication inside out. So imagination is a means for people to understand the natural world as well as a method of expressing the metaphorical world. Imagination help us understand the external world, make sense specific to produce metaphorical items. From this way, the metaphorical world (which corresponds to the life world) obtains its basic building materials.If we regard the metaphorical world as a building, the metaphors which advanced by the imagination from the feelings are the bricks and tiles. And the function of the synaesthesia is to agglutinate these bricks and tiles structuredly in order to make them an overall shape with a characteristics of a personal feeler.
